Hamilton Civic League's Community Values & Priorities Survey

The BNA encourages all residents to participate in the Hamilton Civic League (civicleague.ca) Community Values & Priorities Survey. This survey is voluntary and anonymous, and takes about 20 minutes to complete. The data collected through this survey will be used to develop a voter information guide for the 2014 Hamilton election. Volunteers from across Hamilton are also helping the HCL administer the survey to a representative sample, so whether you complete it in paper or online, please express your opinions now so that Beasley is heard!

2013 McLaren Cup: Soccer to the Core

Despite not being the home to any regulation size soccer pitches, this past weekend the Beasley neighbourhood hosted the 2013 McLaren Cup, drawing dozens of young soccer enthusiasts to one of the city's most heavily used parks.  With play organized on two asphalt-paved surfaces at McLaren Park, toddlers and teens alike were able to practice their skills and play in a number of organized games in order to determine the true McLaren Champion!

Neighbourhood Development worker and soccer-loving Beasley resident Brandon Braithwaite coordinated the second annual event, bringing together resources and volunteers from many of the Beasley Neighbourhood Association's community partners. We'd like to thank the West Hamilton Youth Soccer Club, the Y on Wheels program, Wesley Urban Ministry's Youth Outreach Workers, the Neighbourhood Development Strategy Team (City of Hamilton) and especially Dr. Cathy Klein, a soccer professional working to help bring more organized sports opportunities to Beasley's youth.

Congrats to the winners, and look out for the 2014 Cup at next year's McLaren Summerfest!

Community Celebrates Beasley BBQ

Downtown residents made Beasley Park into a bustling carnival on Saturday afternoon as the Beasley Neighbourhood Association hosted the 7th annual community BBQ with our many community partners.

Hundreds of hot dogs and dozens of litres of ice cream donated from Good Shepherd were served thanks to volunteers from the Hamilton Downtown Mosque, to the delight of residents who were also treated to a fantastic performance by the Hamilton Youth Steel Orchestra

Thanks as well to the NGen Youth Centre, St. John's Ambulance, Hamilton Police Services, the Hamilton Skateboard Assembly, McMaster University Hamilton Neighbourhoods Study, Wesley Urban Ministries, Youth Outreach Workers Hamilton, Re-Create Outreach Art Studio, and Hamilton Council on Aging, and Yes We Cannon for participating and welcoming our very diverse Beasley community.

And of course, thank you to the many BNA volunteers who volunteered their time and resources to help make the event a rousing success. See you all next year!

Bikes Lanes on Cannon

One of the issues identified in the Beasley Neighbourhood Plan is the need to address the way that Cannon Street is currently designed and make it more neighbourhood-friendly.  Yes We Cannon is a local, grassroots movement, gathering Hamiltonians to petition City Council to improve cyclist and pedestrian safety in the lower city by taking one simple step.

The mission: create a bi-directional bike lane, running the full length of Cannon Street, by 2015.

In order to acheive this vision, we need to send a loud, clear signal to Hamilton City Council.  We need the support of thousands within our community when we present the petition to Council this fall!

Help make this reality by signing the petition at yeswecannon.ca

Please also share this petition with everyone you know. The more people we get signing it the more likely we will be heard!
